Mom is playing the accordion at the Raleigh Woman's Prison
This is so interesting.... filled with articles on woman's issues: achievements, prospects, earnings, the role of the hostess, civic engagement, the "ideal husband", types of mothers, the housewife/homemaker life and woman's changing roles. I find this subject fascinating because so much has changed for women since the 19th century, and then so much hasn't. Much progress is to be attributed to Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, but I wonder what they would say now? Surely they would be very impressed with the hot topics on MomsRising but changes are still needed! |

Hello, my name is Abu Bakar Tambi. Am so happy to have met with information on janice capps patterson today. Well, I was a student at NCSU having Dr Bob Patterson as my advisor....graduated in 1979. I was with my wife Zainah all the years we were at Raleigh. Met Janice and all her children..Patricia, Melanie and MEG( not sure if I got the spelling right). I can recall some of the time we spent together with the Patterson family both at Merwin Road, Raleigh residence and at other places such as a zoo and with Dr Bob Patterson's folks....parents and sister (Mrs Rice?). Well ...we are now looking through our photo albums to see if we can recall our photos. I can now recall a copy of a painting by Janice Patterson...a forest of dogwood trees.
ReplyDeleteJanice Patterson is such a wonderful lady .....beautiful, kind
and indeed very gentle .....Her works of art exhibit the person she was.We are so sorry to learn that she is no more.
Our best personal regards to all of you...... Patricia and Dr Haak...and (the beautiful daughter too!). We wish to continue communicating with you.
Note:
Patricia, I can recall a photo of you with my wife near a bush of flower plants next to your Merwin Road house.....we would send you a copy of the picture when we can find it. You probably was just an infant then.

Hello Abu Baker Tambu and Zainah!!! It was so wonderful receiving your message and connect again. Thank you for your most kind message. I remember you and Zainah so well. Your presence in my life as a child made an incredibly positive impact on my life. Thank you again so much for reaching out. I remember the trip to the zoo and other wonderful time we shared. I will write to you again and I wish you a blessed 2020!!
DeleteHi Patricia. Thanks so much for your website. I've been looking for distant cousins on Ancestry.com, and I just found that Janice Louise Capps is a 3rd cousin once removed (3rd cousin to my mother). When I found your website I was amazed at what a talented artist she was. The paintings are beautiful. And you've done a great job organizing the website. Thanks for sharing your mother's wonderful talent.

Wow, whoever posted this... Thank you!!! And where was this found? I love seeing Mom as a teenager playing the accordion. She was amazing... favorites she played often were Lady of Spain and Flight of the Bumblebee. THANK YOU for sharing this!!!!!!!
